Parliament session adjourned as UNP protests

The session in Sri Lankan Parliament today (Friday) was adjourned until January 20 due to protest by UNP members condemning the killing of ‘The Sunday Leader’ editor Lasantha Wickrematunga. Wearing black and red bands and holding placards, UNP members assembled near the speaker’s chair and shouted slogans against the government, holding it responsible for the murder.

Opposition leader Ranil Wickremesinghe demanded an international level inquiry into the senior journalist’s killing. The session lasted only around 45 minutes, as uproar reign since the beginning of the sitting.
