“Centre failed to take efforts to resolve Sri Lanka issue”

The international general secretary of the Vishva Hindu Parishad, Praveen Togadia, has accused that the Central government failed to use its good offices to stop the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka. Speaking to reporters at Rameswaram on Saturday, he said that there were reports of innocent Tamil civilians being killed every day in Sri Lanka in the ongoing war between the Sri Lankan forces and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam.

The Centre should have voiced its serious concern to protect Tamils. But it had not taken any concrete step to pressurise the Sri Lankan government to stop the war in which Tamil civilians had become the actual victims. Hence the Centre should intervene in the matter immediately to stop the war.

Mr. Togadia said that several reputed international human rights organisations and groups had been accusing the Sri Lanka government for its poor track record in human rights violations. It should give top priority to respect the human rights and its own citizens. Similarly, there were reports that innocent Tamil Nadu fishermen were being harassed in the sea. The VHP would mobilise people support if the steps were not taken to stop the killing of innocent Tamils.

The Tamil Nadu government and intelligence agencies must step vigil against reported activities of fundamentalist organisations in Coimbatore, Madurai, Dindigul, Rameswaram and Theni.
