Rebels prevent people from leaving so does the government ‐ N.Srikantha

TNA parliamentarian and advocate N.Srikantha stated over 5000 people have been killed and over 15,000 people injured in the Wanni region. He added nearly five hundred people had died due to lack of medicines. Srikantha said the present artillery attacks should be stopped and an atmosphere created for normalcy in Wanni and added his party had the need to discuss things with the president.

He also said the war needs to be stopped, a solution should be put forward for the ethnic problem to end, and he went on to say, thus the whole nation could be uplifted. He also urged for unity amongst all communities in the island and emphasised for everyone to think of each other as Srilankans.

Srikantha pointed out on government‐controlled areas where the displaced people were treated like prisoners and many schools in Vavuniya being shut down and converted to camps. He also highlighted on immediate family members not being able to see their loved ones inside the camps due to restrictions imposed.

Srikantha went on to say the rebels were preventing people from leaving, the government was doing the same, and there was no difference between the two parties. He urged reporters to be permitted to go in to battle zones and bring out the truth after which he said the LTTE would be pulled up and added mistake was mistake no matter who committed it.
