Allegation against Douglas Devananda, fishing prohibition is utilized for self political benefits towards Jaffna

Jaffna Fisheries Society has alleged against Minister Douglas Devananda, for its political self benefits, utilizing the prohibition order placed in the Jaffna peninsula sea area. Meanwhile, in recent times, massive number of Southern Sinhala fishermen are only permitted for fishing in the Jaffna peninsula sea area was stated.

Jaffna information reveals, Jaffna fishermen are attacked and their fishing equipments are grabbed and harassed.

Jaffna fishermen stated, deep water fishing was much affected due to Indian fishermen, and Sinhala fishermen were granted permission, hence the Jaffna fisheries resources are not acquired to them was stated by the Jaffna fishermen.

In the meantime two days before clashes occurred in the Vadamarachi North sea area among the Jaffna fishermen and Sinhala fishermen. Sinhalese fishermen were attacked by local fishermen in the Point Pedro sea area, and their belongings were damaged was according to information.
