Outbreak of typhoid fever, viral hepatitis reported in internment camps

Outbreak of typhoid fever and viral hepatitis has been reported in the internment camps in Vavuniyaa, according to health authorities sources. Sources in the camps said the situation has worsened over the last couple of days.

Commenting on the situation, Government Epidemiology Unit Director, Dr. Prabha Palihawadana today (Friday) told media that they have taken measures to check those from developing into epidemic.

Hundreds of thousands of Vanni civilians are detained in the internment camps, which are totally under the control of Sri Lanka Army.
