Three Sri Lankan Tamils arrive at Rameswaram

Three Sri Lankan Tamils, who reportedly lived in a camp in Vavuniya, arrived at Rameswaram on Friday. Sources said on information that an unknown boat had arrived on Narikuzhi shore, a team of marine policemen reached there and seized it with an engine. All three were taken to the marine police station.

They were identified as S. Anushan (19), his younger brother Sarath Babu (18) and his relative Thirukumaran. They claimed that though they were the native of Talaimannar, they went to Nachikuda in 2008.

They were enrolled as the members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam and later escaped from the organisation. They were in the custody of “paramilitary” forces for sometime and stayed in a camp in Vavuniya. They told the police that since many Tamils were living in a precarious condition, they fled to India for better prospects.
