Appeal to release the Grama Sevakas detained at the Vavuniya detention camp

North and Eastern Gramaka Sevaka Association states, large amount of Grama Sevakas are detained along with the civilians in the Vavuniya Chettikulam Camp. The Association has forwarded a letter to Social Coordination Minister, stating, the Grama Sevakas’ detained along with their families should be sheltered in a separate locality for which arrangements should be processed. The letter also requests, they should be allowed to function in their social duties.

Meanwhile, the Northern and Eastern provincial Grama Sevakas Association has requested, the new changes made in the duty times of Grama Sevakas should be cancelled. They request to reconsider this, and on this connection they have forwarded a letter to Internal Affairs Minister.

It was stated, that other than their normal duty hours, an additional two and a half days had been extended towards their working times, , and on this basis, they had to work on Saturday.

In the meantime the Grama Sevakas of Eastern and Northern provinces stated, that they had to work for more than the allocated hours to attend to the requirements of the people affected by Tsunami and by war in processing towards many working projects. Hence they had requested to withdraw the compulsory order placed towards the additional working days.
