EPDP men injured in clash with police during JMC election

A group of supporters of Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) were injured in clash with police during Jaffna Municipal Council (JMC) election.

Sources said police swooped on the EPDP supporters when they tried to forcibly enter a polling booth in a school in Nayanmaarkaddu to cast vote.

Tamil National Alliance leaders alleged that immediate before the close of voting, EPDP persons in many areas including Naavaanthurai and Kurunakar tried to vote showing their Sri Lanka Army (SLA) identity cards instead of their National Identity Cards.

When police intercepted them, they locked in clash with police.

However, the police brought the situation under control although tense situation was prevailing in those areas till evening, sources in Jaffna said.
