Tharsika Saravanan, 27 year-old, from Charava’nai was found dead in her room in the official quarters on Sunday, and the hospital sources say she had an argument with the doctor the night before. A relative of the Sinhalese doctor suspect, who is a high officer in Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) in the islets, had managed to save him, and the doctor was escorted by Sri Lanka Army from Velanai to Changkanai. Oorkaavatturai police said that they found evidence indicating that the nurse, Darshika Saravanan, had been killed. Oorkaavattu’rai police requested permission from Magistrates court to transfer the case to Anuradapura court claiming safety of the suspect, according to the legal sources in Jaffna. The intention was not the safety of the suspect, but to make easy escape from justice.“A doctor arrested for the mysterious death of a midwife in Jaffna Teaching Hospital in Sri Lanka’s northern Jaffna peninsula has been assaulted and admitted to the hospital” is the news in some Singhala news today. Kayts Magistrate has already remanded the doctor till July 24 for his alleged involvement in the suspected killing of, the midwife. Meanwhile, Jaffna prison authorities and Oorkaavattu’rai police Thursday submitted contradicting reports in Oorkaavattu’rai court on why the suspect was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in Jaffna Teaching Hospital (JTH) Wednesday night. Prison authorities’ report said that the suspect was suffering from chest pain while the police report said that the suspect had sustained physical injuries in the prison.
