BJP’s prime ministerial candidate L. K. Advani has accused the Congress-led UPA of being `insensitive’ to the Sri Lankan Tamils’ cause. Addressing hundreds of MDMK supporters and pro-Eelam activists who began a day-long fast led by Vaiko, He said the decades-old ethnic conflict in the island nation cannot be resolved through the use of brutal force.
AIADMK’s manifesto: equal status to Tamils, else separate ‘Eelam’
Jayalalithaa-led AIADMK in its election manifesto on Thursday night said if devolution of powers in Tamil-dominated provinces of Sri Lanka failed to give equal status to Tamils it would press for a “separate Eelam”. “Tamils should be accorded equal status with the Sinhala majority with devolution of administrative power in the Tamil-dominated provinces of Sri Lanka,” the manifesto, released during AIADMK-led front’s election campaign in Chennai, said.
Tamil Nadu in hot soup on Eelam issue; one more self immolation reported
Vaiko on Thursday blamed Congress president Sonia Gandhi for the killing of innocent Tamils in Sri Lanka and DMK government for stifling the voice of the opposition; Dr S. Ramadas ridiculed Mr Karunanidhi’s plea to the Centre to bring about ceasefire in Lanka; CPI state secretary D. Pandian alleged that Mr Karunanidhi was more interested in saving his government than the lives of thousands of the Lankan Tamils.
‘MK staging a drama on Lankan issue’
Chief Minister M Karunanidhi was staging a drama on the Lankan issue and he would be taught a lesson in the elections, PMK founder Dr S Ramadoss has said. Addressing media persons after a meeting of party activists here, Ramadoss said Karunanidhi is shedding crocodile tears. The Congress has betrayed people on the issue and the DMK is supporting it.
Pardons LTTE supporter who hurled object – Chidambaram
Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram has asked to pardon and release an LTTE supporter who shouted slogans hailing the banned outfit and hurled a wooden object towards the stage where he was speaking on Sunday evening. Chidambaram was at an election rally in Karaikudi town of Tamil Nadu when the incident occured.
Law will deal with Vaiko’s Tiger comments – Rahul
India’s Congress party General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, son of Rajiv Ghandi, told reporters in Kochi the law will take its own course on comments made by Vaiko on the LTTE. Vaiko, a Tamil Nadu politician, had said there will be a bloodbath in India if LTTE leader Prabakaran is horrored. Rahul said he does not like the LTTE because they assassinated his father and noted that innocent Tamils should not be harmed in Sri Lanka.
Now, CM finds fault with LTTE
Three days after he said that LTTE leader Prabhakaran should be treated with dignity if arrested by Lankan forces, Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi said that a solution to the Sri Lankan Tamils problem could not be found till now because the outfit had adopted ‘wrong ways’ going by the ‘wrong advice’ of some people in the State. In a statement here, he said, ‘a solution to the Sri Lankan Tamils problem could not be found yet because the LTTE had acted in wrong ways, heeding to the wrong advice of the wrong people in Tamilnadu.’
I am not afraid to be arrested – Vaiko
Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) General Secretary Vaiko said that he was not afraid of being arrested for making inflammatory speech. “I am prepared to face any charges. I am not scared of arrest,” Vaiko said. His comments came after an First Incident Report (FIR) was issued against him under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Law, for allegedly delivering inflammatory speeches in support of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE).
Protest against Indian Army for supporting and supplying war necessaties to Lanka
SLA is using chemical weapons to destroy civilians and LTTE’s in the war front. Indian Army is working as the backforce. Against this the huge protest march were held today (12/04/2009) in Coimbatore. In 58th and 59th division of SLA, they are having more than 50% of Indian army forces said the French News Agency. India is supplying both weapons and manpower to SLA to destroy Tamils. So now, the protest must be targeted and sharpened towards Indian Government.
“Bloodbath in Tamil Nadu if something happens to Tamil Eelam President Prabhakaran”: Vaiko
The MDMK’s Vaiko on Wednesday warned of a bloodbath in the state if LTTE Chief Prabhakaran is harmed. The war in Sri Lanka is back on centre stage in Tamil Nadu. “Prabhakaran lives in the hearts of Tamils. Tamils all over the world do not want even a small harm happening to him. If anything happens to him there will be bloodbath in Tamil Nadu,” he said.
