UN Chief failed during Lankan visit – Norwegian diplomat
Norway’s UN Ambassador Mona Juul has criticized United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon’s leadership style including his role during his recent visit to Sri Lanka, where she maintained he had failed in his capacity as UN leader, the Oslo daily Aftenposten reported Wednesday.
TRO honors the memory of humanitarian workers
On this, the inaugural “World Humanitarian Day”, Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) honors the memory of humanitarian workers throughout the world who have laid down their lives in selfless service to those affected by war or natural disaster, said a press release by TRO on Wednesday.
USTPAC honor the humanitarian workers killed by the Sri Lankan government since 2005
Today is the first Commemoration of World Humanitarian Day; USTPAC, US Tamil Political Action Council issued a media release in rememberance and to honor the 105 humanitarian workers who have been killed by the Sri Lankan government since 2005.

None left to take over LTTE ‐ Karuna
Rebel turned politico Vinayagamoorthy Muralitharan aka Karuna Amman, speaking to Daily Mirror online, said that there is no one left to take over the reigns of the LTTE, following the capture of Kumaran Pathmanadan (KP) and that now the outfit was virtually extinct.
Sri Lanka used British weapons on Tamil civilians – British parliamentary committee
A British House of Commons committee in its annual report has claimed that arms made in Britain and exported to Sri Lanka may have been fired on civilians during war against Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, British media Channel 4 reported.
In the report, the cross-party committees on arms export controls recommended the government should review all arms exports to Sri Lanka following the crackdown on rebels.
SSP’s wife goes into hiding
The wife of Vass Gunawardena, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), has gone into hiding since the incident of assault of an IT student Nipuna Ramanayake took place on Tuesday evening, according to police officials who have been ordered to arrest her.
A special police team headed by SP Neil Hettiarachchi is investigating the incident. But the team has failed to arrest SSP’s wife so far as she has gone into hiding and her whereabouts are unknown.
Allow women, children, old persons to leave IDP camps – UNP
The United National Party (UNP) has called on the government to allow around 175,000 women, children and old people, forcibly detained in northern refugee camps, to live with their relatives either in Sri Lanka or abroad.
Addressing a press conference in Colombo yesterday the head of the UNP Media Unit, Lakshman Kirielle MP, said that the government is violating the basic human rights of the IDPs by preventing them from escaping the appalling conditions in the camps.
EPC Chief Minister, ministers write to President demanding removal of Governor
Eastern Provincial Council (EPC) Chief Minister Sivanesathurai Chandrakanthan and four other provincial ministers are learnt to have sent a petition to President Mahinda Rajapakse demanding the removal of Governor Mohan Wijewickrema immediately, according to sources in EPC.
Duo on 9 day 300km walk from Sydney reach Canberra
Seran Sribalan and Vishna Sivaraj have arrived in Canberra on the 9th day of their 300km walk from Sydney to Canberra. The duo wish to raise awareness of the plight of 300,000 Tamil civilians being forcibly detained in military controlled internment camps in the island of Sri Lanka.
The final leg of their walk will comprise of an awareness campaign today at 9AM at Garema Place, Canberra City, where speeches will be delivered by the pair.
Law and order destroyed in the country – Anurakumara Tissanayake
JVP Parliament Member Anurakumara Tissanayake stated, law and order is completely destroyed in the country. He said accusations are against the Police in regard to the assault incident of a student attached to the Malabe Information Technology Institute and brutal murders of Angulana youth.
